Port Blair, Apr 05: To cater to the needs of the general public and tourists for high-speed public internet services, BSNL A&N has launched BSNL WiFi services through the Public Data Office (PDO) near Jirkatang check post and Shaheed Dweep on 05th April 2022.
The Public Data Office (PDO) is a retail hotspot location where users can walk in and use high-speed internet service connectivity through Wi-Fi. The public Wi-Fi service will be available within a radius of 100 to 150 meters from the hotspot which is located in PDO.
PDOs are primarily aimed at removing the digital divide for internet access for the rural population. The following recharge plans are offered for the users of these Public Wifi, wherein 1 GB of data will be available at Rs 9 on 1-day validity, 3 GB data for 3 days validity at Rs 19, 7 GB data for 7 days at Rs 39, 15 GB data for 15 days at Rs 59 and 30 GB data for 30 days at Rs 69.
In addition, BSNL A&N has started providing high-speed Broadband on radio under the brand Bharat Air Fibre at Shaheed Dweep, which will help to provide faster and more reliable internet services on the Island.
Bharat Air Fibre has speed at par with high-speed fibre FTTH and all FTTH plans are applicable for Air Fiber. This being completely wireless technology is easy to deploy, more reliable needs less maintenance and will provide connectivity in Non-feasible areas and villages which can’t be connected through FTTH.
To boost the mobile internet services at Little Andaman Island, BSNL A&N has recently augmented 2 Nos of 3G towers to 4G (working on the 3G spectrum) and 3 Nos of 2G towers to 3G. Customers of these areas are requested to upgrade their SIMs to 4G SIMs (if not done earlier) by visiting the nearest BSNL Point of Sale and avail of BSNL 4G services.
