Port Blair, Nov 22: Raising issue of feral elephant attack in Radhanagar, Millangram & Shyamnagar under Diglipur Tehsil, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today urged the Chief Secretary to take necessary measures to save lives and properties of villagers living in these villages.
“15 to 16 Nos of Wild Elephants are roaming in revenue & Forest villages namely Radhanagar, Millangram, Shyamnagar and Forest encroached areas such as Krishnakathai, Harennallah, Lallitkathai and Barmachar and attacking cattle and livestock. Wild Elephants also destroy the entire Horticulture gardens, Plantations, Paddy fields, vegetable gardens etc.,” Mr. Ray said in his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary.
He added that sometimes these Elephants are entering inside houses and destroying properties and hence there is serious threat to lives.
The MP demanded electric fencing around these villages as temporary solution and shifting of these elephants to other Islands as permanent solution.
