Port Blair, Mar 28: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to direct ANIIDCO to provide 24-hour service in the ANIIDCO petrol pump of Goal Ghar.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the Member of Parliament mentioned that since 12.11.2013 following the direction of the Administration, the ANIIDCO petrol pump was kept open for the public for 24-hours with the approval of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
He added that he has been informed by the public that since last nearly two years this 24-hour service was stopped by the ANIIDCO, probably due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma mentioned in his letter that Port Blair being the capital town of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, vehicles operate in Port Blair road till late night and again early morning movement of vehicles starts and hence there is a need to keep atleast one Petrol Pump open for 24 hours in Port Blair city.
He added that such 24-hour service in Petrol Pump will also be life-saving for people as in case of emergency police vehicles or ambulances will be able to refuel even during late night.
Mr. Sharma added that tourist vehicles in the South Andaman region also start plying in the wee hours every morning and hence 24-hour service in any one petrol pump in the city will also be of great benefit for tour operators.
