Port Blair, Mar 24: The National Tuberculosis Elimination Program is the Public Health initiative of the Government of India that organizes its anti-Tuberculosis efforts and functions as a flagship component of the National Health Mission which provides technical and managerial leadership to anti-tuberculosis activities in the country and provides benefits to TB patients like treatment supporter assigned to each patient, counselling of TB patients to motivate them to complete their course, treatment progress monitored in “NIKSHAY” and “NIKSHAY POSHAN YOJANA”- where Rs.500/- is being paid on monthly basis to patients during the course of treatment for nutritional support.
District Administration, South Andaman through its District Health Society have been conducting lot of vertical programme under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) to spread awareness and overcome the stigma on the theme “Invest to End TB. Save Lives”:
• NTEP (SA) conducted a Awareness cum Active case finding of Tuberculosis cases among the employees of Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs and Self Help Groups on 23rd Mar 2022. Dr. Mitul addressed the gathering and spoke about the types, signs & symptoms of tuberculosis and nutritional benefits. The employees of Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs took pledge on #TBMuktBharat and joined hands to contribute towards TB Free-South Andaman.
• Sensitization & screening programme on TB was conducted at all the Health and Wellness Centre of South Andaman District amongst all frontline workers.
• NTEP (SA) have collected stories from TB Champions/Survivors, success stories on fighting the battle against TB have been recorded to share among the community to create awareness.
