Port Blair, Nov 20: If the members of State Heritage Committee ever visit the road of New Housing Colony, Barood Godown of Prothrapur Village, then it is sure that they would recommend for declaring the said road as heritage site.
The road constructed long back is still untouched by contractors of PRI members for repair works. Like the remains of Ross Island on that road one could see remains of stone chips used by contractors, when the road was first constructed.
Since construction the road was never repaired and the situation of the road is so bad that it is hard to make out that upto which extend the road was actually constructed.
Not only this when the road was constructed, probably using stone-age technologies, the Engineers did not feel it necessary to construct drains along the said road, for which after every spell of heavy rain the road transform into a pond, making movement of people impossible.
Since last many years, people of the area have been demanding for repair of the said road and construction of drains but sadly the Zilla Parishad hardly cares about the people living in the area. Worst hit are the students living in the area, who can’t go to school in rainy days.
Residents allege that according to Annual Plan 2011-2012, funds for repair of the said road was released by the Administration to the concerned Panchayat Samity but sadly no step has been initiated yet to repair the road.
