Port Blair, Feb. 24: As part of the ensuing Panchayat & Municipal Elections-2022, the Office of the Director, Panchayat and Municipal Elections (DPME) is organising training programmes regularly under the close supervision of DPME, Shri Suneel Anchipaka for the Officials engaged in the conduct of the Elections-2022. Accordingly, today training was organised for the ROs, Sector Officers, Presiding Officers, First, Second, Third Polling Officials & Polling Assistants of Municipal Election- 2022 in the auditorium of DBRAIT. The Nodal Officer, Training & Vehicle, Dr. Aom Dhole while addressing the trainees, apprised them about their roles & responsibilities during the election. He said all the personnel engaged in election duty have to take the training seriously so that there should not be any problem on the day of Polling on March 6, 2022. He urged them to be well -versed in operating EVMs so that Polling takes place smoothly at their respective Polling Stations under their jurisdiction.
Shri Som Naidu, DANICS (Retd) as the resource person briefed about the roles and responsibilities of the Presiding Officers and the other officials engaged in Election Duty pertaining to conduct of elections in the UTs. He said Presiding Officer is solely responsible for all the activities taking place in the Polling Stations assigned to them. The resource person through a power point presentation enlightened the trainees on the points such as formation of polling parties, collection of polling materials, collection of electoral rolls, setting up of polling station, handling of EVM, etc.
The team of Master trainers led by Shri Papa Rao imparted training to the election personnel about handling the EVMs on poll day. Checking of EVMs, EVM components and details of Control Unit & Ballot Unit, setting up of EVMs in the Polling Stations, Mock Poll-sequence, closing of Poll, closing and sealing of Control Unit, were effectively explained to the trainees’ present on the occasion.
Later, a hands on training on EVM was also held in which the trainees familiarized themselves with handling of Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs).
