Port Blair, Nov 19: The penultimate day of 59th AH India Cooperative Week – 2012 was observed as ‘Cooperatives & Entrepreneurship Day’. In this connection, a seminar was organised by theAndaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union in the premises of Panchayat Hall, Brind avan, South Andaman on 19th November 2012 at 10 AM – which was graced by Mohammed Shafique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, South Andaman. Ms. V. K. Mariyam Bibi, Member and Ex-Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman was present in the seminar as Special Guest.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Ram Lall, General Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union highlighted on the programmes organised in connection with the 59th All India Coop. Week-2012 during the last 5 (five) days in different places of South Andaman. He further said that cooperative movement, though in slow pace, has gained momentum in these Islands gradually. Cooperative societies in different sectors like consumers, fisheries etc. are doing commendable jobs in these Islands. Since cooperative movement is a movement of mass, every person should come forward to make this movement a grand success.
In his brief speech the Chief Guest Mohammed Shafique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, South Andaman applauded the efforts made by the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union under the leadership of its Chairman Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma. He said that through the celebrations of Cooperative Week every year, the A&N State Cooperative Union is creating good awareness among the rural people. PRIs are also interlinked with the cooperative societies, insofar as rural developmental works are related, he added.
Mr. S. Suresh Babu, Principal, Rajiv Gandhi Coop. Training College run and managed by the A&N State Cooperative Union in his speech informed the assemblage that during the last 4-5 years, the world saw a great fall in international economy, but it could not make any influence in cooperative sector, particularly, in our country. There lies the power of cooperation, Mr. Suresh Babu opined.
Ms. V. K. Mariyam Bibi, Member and ex-Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, addressing the gathering said that the A&N State Cooperative Union led by its ChairmanMr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has already done a good job by opening Tailoring Centres in rural areas to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural people, especially, the women folk. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. O. Abdul Aziz, Director, A&N State Cooperative Union.
