Port Bair, Jan 24: The passengers of ferry vessel M.V. Lawerence had a narrow escape on Friday last, when the vessel crew noticed water entering inside the entire room, after which passengers were asked to disembark.
The incident reportedly took place last Friday at around 3.30 PM near Dandus Point Jetty.
As per information received the incident took place when the ferry was on her way to Chatham Jetty. The vessel departed with several passengers on board and within two minutes after leaving the jetty, crew members noticed water entering inside the engine room. Soon the ferry was taken back to Dandus Point Jetty and passengers were asked to disembark.
When contacted a senior officer in the Directorate of Shipping Services who doesn’t want his name to be quoted, told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the incident which took place near Dundas Point Jetty, the rubber seal of the propeller shaft suffered damages due to which this incident took place.
“Up to the gearbox of the vessel the water was filled and soon the water was pumped out. Later with the help of another boat, the vessel was taken to the Marine Dockyard where the vessel is currently being repaired”, he added.
