Port Blair, Jan 21: On 17 January 2022 Tug Santiago boat, which was present in the South Car Nicobar region for Seismic Survey reportedly rescued 10 fishermen, who were in distress. The fishermen were found floating on some drums nearly 14 Nautical miles from South of Car Nicobar and were handed over to Car Nicobar Police after rescue.
As per information the fisherman were having some documents with them for their identity based on which it is understood that they are Myanmar nationals. They were reportedly going towards Malaysia in a Cargo Vessel carrying fish but the Cargo Vessel capsized in sea. These 10 people managed to survive nearly 10 days in the sea, floating on some drums. As per details all the men were heavily dehydrated and sick due to which they were given necessary medical treatment at Car Nicobar.
Further, this morning the Indian Coast Guard brought them to Port Blair after which they were handed over to Central Crime Station (CCS). They have now been given shelter at Distress Camp and their joint interrogation by all Intelligence units is expected in coming days.
