Port Blair, Nov 18: It was a terrible Saturday for a group of people from New Pahargaon. A car full of worried and troubled people were rushing towards G B Pant Hospital with a lady, who suffered 60 percent burn injuries in a self immolation bid on Saturday evening.
As there was no time to wait for Ambulance the lady was taken to hospital in a private car and as per standard procedure, all lights inside the car was kept on and the driver was blowing horn all the way to get a clear passage. Though people on road understood the situation and gave clear passage to the car but things became impossible infront of Cellular Jail.
Infront of the Cellular Jail there were nearly 100 tourist vehicles, which were haphazardly parked. This had resulted in a traffic Jam. Even after repeated request the drivers of tour operators were reluctant to remove their vehicles. Even Police Jawans posted infront of the Cellular Jail took nearly 10 minutes to understand the problem. According to reports for the vehicle, it took nearly 20 minutes to reach G B Pant Hospital from Cellular Jail.
Loss of 20 minutes is crucial for a serious patient and if this illegal parking is allowed infornt of Cellular Jail tomorrow some innocent people will surely die because of this. The Traffic Department must immediately take step and keep the Hospital Road free from all traffic Jam 24X 7.
