Port Blair, Jan 11: For the past seven days the residents of Little Andaman are suffering heavily due to a severe shortage of petrol in the Island.
As per information received the petrol crisis is being witnessed by the residents of Little Andaman because the main petrol pump and other private petrol outlets have gone dry and the cargo vessel with petrol has not been sent for Little Andaman on time. Public alleged that they don’t have petrol even for any emergency purpose.
When contacted an officer of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. told Andaman Sheekha that due non-availability of any cargo vessel the supply of petrol was not delayed.
However, he said that a ship with Petrol has sailed on Monday from Port Blair, which will reach Hutbay via Swaraj Dweep Island, and soon distribution of petrol will begin, he assured.
But later an unconfirmed report mentioned that the said cargo vessel has returned back to Port Blair yesterday night because of some issue in the survey. However, no official was available at late evening hours to confirm this new update.
Little Andaman is witnessing such a crisis of petrol almost every month now hence the general public is now demanding a thorough inquiry in this matter as such delay in transportation of fuel is causing loss to the public and also to the government.
