Port Blair, Dec 22: Since last nearly two years the lone Toilet Block of Jirkatang Jarawa Protection Post (JPP) is under repair giving very tough time to the ATR passengers. Sadly know even after completion of renovation works, the Toilet Block has been kept locked.
As a temporary measure nearly six round type portable Toilet blocks were placed at Jirkatang during lockdown period but according to ATR passengers these mobile Toilet Blocks are grossly inadequate for the growing number of ATR passengers.
During the present tourists season one can see dozens and dozens of tourists and other ATR passengers standing in long queue to respond to nature’s call before the morning convoys but the renovated toilet block of Jirkatang which is completely ready is kept locked, since last nearly two months.
When Andaman Sheekha correspondent contacted the Panchayat Secretary of the Ferrargunj Panchayat, he said that the final bills of this work have not reached the panchayat yet.
He added that due to some technical errors when the work order was given the concerned contractor, there was no mention of electric works inside the toilet block and hence the renovation work is ready but till no electric work has been carried out inside the toilet block. He said that this is the reason why the toilet block is kept locked.
The Panchayat Secretary added that efforts are being made to issue fresh work order for electric works of the toilet block and once necessary permission is obtained the work will be completed within one week.
Meanwhile, the ex- Zilla Parishad (NMA) up-adhyaksh and ZP member of Baratang Mr. R Alager Swami today spoke to the Director of RD, Mr. Vinay Kumar Jindal regarding this issue and responding very positively the Director of RD, reportedly assured to solve this issue as soon as possible.
