Port Blair, Dec 02: The President of Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress and Former Member of Andaman & Nicobar Pradesh Council Mr. Paritosh Kumar Haldar has urged to resume the passenger-cum- cargo ship services between Kolkata and Port Blair via Mayabunder.
In his letter addressed to (Retd) Admiral D K Joshi, Lt. Governor, the President ANDC informed that there is no passenger-cum- cargo ship services between Kolkata and Port Blair since 23rd March 2020. He said that the service has been withdrawn at the time of devastating covid-19.
“The ship services need to be resumed between Kolkata and Port Blair via Mayabunder at least once in a month. Worst sufferers are the ordinary public,” he added.
The President, ANDC further pointed out that the cost of flight tickets is on the higher side most of the time, because of which general public cannot afford it.
He also demanded to unload perishable items like potatoes, tomatoes, etc, and other cargo items coming from Kolkata at Mayabunder port.
He mentioned that if the ship services are resumed, not only the middle-class people of Middle and North Andaman will be a benefited but also the rates of the essential commodities will come down.
