Port Blair, Nov 30: 10 fishermen of Indian Fishing Boat namely “Subha Sree Sea Food”, who were arrested by Myanmar Coast Guard will be reportedly released soon from Myanmar Jail after nearly 6 months and will be arriving India on 02 December 2021.
According to an office memorandum of Ministry of External Affairs dated 29, November 2021, 10 Indian fishermen were captured by Myanmar Coast Guard from Diglipur region, on 11 April 2021, while they were fishing.
The Indian Mission in Myanmar conducted Remote Consular Access (RCA) from 13 to 17 September 2021 and also sent a formal request letter dated 21 September 2021 to MOFA to grant amnesty to these 10 fishermen on humanitarian grounds and also raised the issue with concerned authorities through diplomatic channels.
Finally, with the mediation of the Indian Mission in Myanmar, these fishermen are going to be released soon. As per detail, today they were scheduled to reach Yangon to undergo RT-PCR test from where they will board the Air India Flight to New Delhi on 02 December 2021.
According to the memorandum, Emergency Certificates (EC) have also been issued to the fishermen by the Indian Mission in Myanmar and they have been accommodated in the passenger’s list for Air India Flight on 02 December 2021 from Yangon to New Delhi.
The said ten fishermen are Mr. Marimuthu Thothan, Mr. Karthik Raja, Mr. S. Kumar, Mr. Surendra Sarkar, Mr. Arul Amalan, Mr. Ajith Kumar Azhagar, Mr. Jai Seelan, Mr. P. Sheik Mohammed and, Mr. Tarun Sarkar.
Andaman and Sheekha daily has the copy of office memorandum of Ministry of External Affairs dated 29, November 2021. When the Director of Fisheries was contacted on this issue to double check the matter he said that presently he does not have any official information about this update.
