Port Blair, Nov 23: To commemorate the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the District Child Protection Unit under District Administration, South Andaman organised Awareness Campaign on “Divyangjan” on Tuesday at Delanipur Anganwadi Centre.
The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness on different types of disabilities and how they impact lives, the attitude Divyangs needs in overcoming the negative and ill-informed vibes and how the persons with disability are entitled to have access to of human rights.
Dr. Mithesh Behari Lall, Psychiatrist from “Health for You” was the resource person for the programme. In his address he explained about the different types of Physical, Intellectual and Autism related disabilities. The Anganwadi Workers were sensitized on identification of various types of disabilities at its early stages, so that child may receive treatment at the right time.
He also briefed the participants to recognise milestone delay, hyper activity, ADHD, behavioural problem, autism etc. and provided indicators to deal with special children with various activities.
The District Administration will conduct more such awareness on Divyangjan so as to educate the society in order to treat the “Divyangs” equally without any discrimination, said the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman.
