Port Blair, Nov 21: A clean up drive was organized by Recykal, in association with Walk for Plastic, True Vision Foundation, Yuva bharat seva samaj charitable trust, Ration Rasheed Foundation (NGOs) and Port Blair Municpal Council (PBMC) from Gandhi Statue to Recykal Point, Mohanpura on Sunday.
Sanitary workers of PBMC and volunteers of these NGOs participated in the cleanliness drive. They not only actively participated in the clean campaign drive, but also educated the people and shopkeepers on how to keep their surroundings litter-free.
The Additional District Magistrate, Mr. Hari Kallikat,Mr.Dilkush Meena AC SA was also present on the occasion. The main purpose of the cleanliness drive was to evoke a sense of responsibility among the people to keep the surrounding areas neat and clean and also to support the Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Govt of India.
Huge quality of wastes were collected from the areas and dumped in the municipal trucks to be disposed of at appropriate areas. The True Vision Foundation and other NGOs here have been conducting cleanliness drives, including beach cleaning drives in various areas of South Andaman.
