Port Blair, Nov 18: The Coast Guard Headquarters, District No. 9 conducted Special Community Interaction Programme and Multi-Specialty Medical Camp at Durgapur village, Diglipur as a part of “AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV”, in association with local administration, Gram Panchayat, Self Help Groups, Fisheries department, Revenue department, Mahila Mandal and other local bodies of village for fishermen community recently. The event was presided by Chief Medical Officer, Community Health Center (CHC), Diglipur. The Community Interaction Programme was focused on educating local fishermen about importance of carrying lifesaving gears while venturing at sea for fishing voyage. The fishermen were also appraised regarding usage of Distress Alert Transponder (DTA) and SOS procedures for seeking assistance during distress. Further, Life jackets were also distributed to the fishermen by Coast Guard. Community Interaction Programme was followed by Multi Specialty Medical Camp in conjunction with team of specialist doctors from CHC encompassing Chief Medical Officer, Medical and Skin specialist, Critical care specialist and Dental surgeons.
In the Multi-Specialty Medical Camp, general health checkup for fishermen and their families was conducted by Coast Guard medical team of District Headquarters No. 9, Specialist team ex CHC and dental checkup by Dental surgeons from CHC, Diglipur. The camp also provided opportunity to the fishermen to interact with Chief Medical Officer, CHC, Diglipur who explained about the general medical awareness and Government of India initiative i.e. “AYUSHMAN BHARAT SCHEME”. The event was a huge success and was highly appreciated by the fishermen community.
