Port Blair, Oct 22: The Sub Division Magistrate of Rangat of North and Middle Andaman has issued a conditional order to the Manager of Mantena Vasistha Strait JV (Package III) of ATR on the issue of pathetic condition of Andaman Trunk Road.
In the order the SDM mentioned that it has been noticed by him and several written complaints have also been received from the villagers of Rangat Sub-Division that the stretch of NH-4 in Middle Andaman is in poor condition.
He added that the commuters as well as vehicular traffic have to face the risk to their lives and bodily injuries on a daily basis and numerous potholes and patches has made travelling an unpleasant experience and uncertain which causes threat to life and property.
He mentioned that the work of rehabilitation and up-gradation of section from Km 107.760 to 129.445 (after Middle Strait to Humphrey), Km 130.600 to 138 (After Humphrey to Kadamtala) @ km 155.000 to 181.000 (End of Jarawa Reserve to Rangat) of NH-223 to 2-Lane with hard shoulder in the Union Territory of Andaman Nicobar Islands comes under Package III has been awarded to contractor M/S Mantena Vasistha Strait JV.
He mentioned in his order that he has noticed that neither the said repair works have been completed on time nor convenient to the commuters have been kept in mind, which seems gross misconduct and negligence towards the works and endanger the life of general public and property.
The SDM has ordered the Manager, M/s Mantena Vasistha Strait JV to fill-up the potholes and patches using WMM and bituminous materials immediately, specially from Rangat Bazar to Hawamahal Bridge and Uttara Jetty to Kadamiala Bazar on priority basis for convenience of general public as well as smooth vehicular traffic and expedite the work of completion of the project.
The SDM asked to furnish the compliance report of the above order in his Court on 23/10/2021 or to appear at 05:00 P.M in the court of undersigned on 25/10/2021 to show-cause why the order should not be enforced.
