Port Blair, Oct 21: Today on 21.10.2021, A&N Police held commemoration parade at Parade ground, Police Lines, Port Blair to pay homage to valiant Policemen who laid their lives at the altar of duties.
Senior Police officers led by Mr. Satyendra Garg, DGP, A&N Island laid wreath at Martyrs Column, Police Lines. Name of two Police personnel of Andaman & Nicobar Police, namely Y.Rama Krishna, ex-HC and KawaldhariYadav, ex-PC who lost their lives during the yearwere read out by DGP, A&N Islands, during the mention of Police personnel who sacrificed their lives during the year in the country.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across the nation inmemory of all the Police personnel who lost their lives in discharge of their duties. The history of Police Commemoration Day goesback to 1959 when on 21st October a patrolling party of CRPF was ambushedby Chinese soldiers at Hot Springs in Ladakh. Since then, every year, 21stOctober is observed as the Police Commemoration Day.As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in the year 2020, 377 Police personnel made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
From 21st to 31st October, A & N Police will holdvarious commemorative events including painting/drawing competition, Essaycompetition, Tree plantation, Police Band Shows, Awareness programme onFire safety & security and Cleanliness drivesto bringawareness in the general public about the services rendered by Police personnelin ensuring maintenance of public peace and tranquillity. Police forces work round the clock to maintain law & order, act as thefirst responder to natural disasters and general safety and security of thecitizens.
All citizens arerequested to observe and participate in the events to respect the Police personnel who serve the society day and night fortheir safety.
