Campbell Bay, Sept 15: Leaders of both political parties Congress and BJP of Great Nicobar met the Assistant commissioner, Campbell Bay Mr. Aditya Kumar Asthana today at 11 AM.
The delegation consisted of Mr. Gagandeep Singh Grewal (INC), Mr. G Venkat Rao(BJP), Mr K C Murgan (BJP), Mr. Sathulingam (Social worker), Mr.U Sitaram (BJP) and Mr. Rahul Singh (INC) demanded for the regular operation of helicopter service as in other parts of Andaman people have frequent ships or bus service but in Islands, like Great Nicobar, which is located 550 km far from Port Blair, has ship connectivity once in 10 days or more.
They mentioned that for emergency they have Pawan Hans Helicopter Service as lifeline but as the Pawan Hans Helicopters come only on Tuesday and Friday.
The delegation mentioned that it has become too difficult for common man to get helicopter tickets as generally medical cases are always in queue for getting helicopter tickets so general public are suffering due to non availability of helicopter seats.
The delegation demanded helicopter service for Great Nicobar Islands, six days a week.
Further the political leaders added that earlier also during the visit of Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District on 6 September 2021,this issue was raised but till date no fruitful solution has come.
The delegation mentioned that if the demands are not fulfilled then both the political parties Congress and BJP will call for a protest against the Administration.
The Assistant Commissioner Campbell Bay assured the delegation that he will take up the issues with the competent Authorities for solving the issue as early as possible.
