Port Blair, July 04: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi; the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan; the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. G Kishan Reddy, requesting them to provide adequate amount of COVID-19 vaccines for Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the earliest.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi in his letter has mentioned that providing free vaccines to the entire population of our country is an achievement in itself. He added that even though Andaman and Nicobar Islands is geographically isolated from mainland India it has still not been able to stay untouched by the pandemic. He also mentioned that the Govt. of India has always paid special attention to the Islands.
He further informed the dignitaries that Andaman and Nicobar Islands has a population of about 4+ Lakh but the Islands have not received adequate vaccine due to which a large population is still unvaccinated.
He added that Andaman and Nicobar Administration had to place lockdowns and other restrictions multiple times to curb the spread of the virus and the daily wage earners, labourers and tourism industry are the worst sufferers.
He added that due to the shortage of the vaccines Andaman and Nicobar Administration is forced to conduct vaccination at only 30 vaccination centres.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi further wrote that once the entire population of the Islands are vaccinated then the life of common man will go back to normal.
He requested to consider the case and provide at least 20,000 vaccines immediately. He also requested sending the vaccines at regular intervals until the entire population of the Islands is vaccinated.
