Port Blair, July 04: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands requesting him to schedule cargo ship to mainland India from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In his letter Mr. Ajoy Bairagi has mentioned that due to unavailability of cargo ships the farmers of the Islands are unable to trade their produce. He added that the produce is the lifeline of the farmers of our Islands and it is getting damaged as there is no demand in the local market because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that the farmers are mentally and economically exhausted. He requested the Chief Secretary to look into the issue and do the needful from his end by scheduling a cargo ship to mainland (Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and Kolkata) at the earliest for betterment of our farmers.
