Port Blair, June 21: Bars and wine shops have been closed for some time and this is the time when bootleggers and Rice Beer makers are trying to take advantage.
Keeping this in mind, the district police of North and Middle Andaman has increased the vigil over habitual bootleggers and is continuously conducting raids and jungle searches.
Although the police stations are already stretched for resources because of the enforcement of ongoing COVID restrictions and deployment of additional staff for patrolling in Jarawa Reserve areas, it has not deterred them for this important aspect, as bootlegging and illicit liquor is an area which may have implications on public health and general crime scenario.
In this year 2021 large amount of illicit liquor was seized and large number of lahens were destroyed by three Police Stations viz Diglipur, Kalighat and Mayabunder.
As per information in 2021 till date PS Diglipur has recovered 65Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 40.88 ltr illicit liquor, 186 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 14 Nos. 375 ML IMFL Bottles, 47 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 2.6 liter loose IMFL bottles. Other than this around many Lehans were destroyed.
Similarly the Police Station Khalighat recovered 18 Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 2.75 ltrs illicit liquor, 18 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 14 Nos. 375 ML IMFL Bottles, 02 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 1.8 liter loose IMFL bottles. Other than this many Lehans were destroyed.
The Police Station Mayabunder recovered 99 Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 05 ltr illicit liquor, 11 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 11 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 1.3 liter loose IMFL bottle. In this case also may Lehans were destroyed.
The entire operation was headed by Inspector Stalin SHO Police Station Diglipur, Inspector Usman Ali, SHO Mayabunder and Sub Inspector Suresh Kumar SHO Khalighat. The operations were monitored by SDPO, Mr. RK Sharma and the entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Vichitra Veer, IPS Superintendent of Police, N&MA.
