Port Blair, Oct 28: President UNNATI discussed the unemployment problem of the islands with Lt Governor on 26.10.12 and requested for creation a single window system from where unemployed youths could get all information regarding self- employment besides constitution of self employment committee at administration level drawing officials and non officials from all concerned department and organization.
In the last month meeting with Lt. Governor, he advised us to give more focus on self-employment because of filling up the vacant posts of all departments on his directions. As a follow up action, UNNATI organized a special drive for effective implementation of Joint liability Group scheme which UNNATI is implementing with the support of NABARD. Under his scheme member of JLG are engaged in a similar type of economic activity.
The members of group would offer a Joint undertaking to the Bank that enables them to avail loan. Under the scheme UNNATI formed 83 Joint Liability Groups of unemployed youths and women involving 339 persons for undertaking various economic activities i.e. Food Processing, milch cattle, goatary, poultry, piggery, petty business, transport, Tailoring, fabrication, computer education programme. Out of 339 persons 83 youths and women were sanctioned loan for various economic activities as enumerated above.
The Scheme is being implemented in perfect co-ordination, assistance and support of Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture industries, District Industries Centre in preparing project reports and technical support in availing loan finance from financial institutions. UNNATI and Co-operative Bank are also making special drive for extending financial assistance to all remaining JLGs, which applied for loan.
