Port Blair, May 09: The sudden surge in COVID 19 cases in Port Blair has made the situation unpredictable, considering the chances of spread of the virus in the Great Nicobar Island by the in-bound Passengers who reached Campbell Bay from Port Blair in MV Kalighat on 04 May 2021.
As per information received the local administration has isolated the Campbell Bay jetty and nearby area for disembarkation of vessel, a total 140 passengers including children arrived at Campbell Bay Port recently and each Passenger had to go under thermal screening and they were advised to go under strict home quarantine for 7days.
It was learnt that the local Administration had arranged special STS busses to drop the passengers to their respective places from Campbell Bay port to different places of Campbell Bay, Govind Nagar and all respective villages till Shastri Nagar.
The Assistant Commissioner of Campbell Bay Mrs. Lalita Tigga told media that a separate monitoring body has been set up by the Nicobar Administration in which daily health status of the quarantine persons will be verified, a separate reporting team is also set up to track their health records.
She pointed out that the team of volunteers has been formed with the help of Ex Pradhan and Government servants of different department to help them procure their daily requirements by following all COVID-19 protocols.
