Port Blair, May 09: Exemplary dedication towards duty as well as country and love and humanity have been exhibited once again by Sub Inspector of Betapur Police Outpost, Mr. Shusant Kumar Debnath and this time Mr. Lorentos Bara, ex-Pradhan of Shivapuram Gram Panchayat also joined hand to serve others.
A kidney patient, Mr. Fuljan Kerketta, 48-years, from Padmanabh village under Betapur, Shivapuram Gram Panchayat was admitted in Billiground Primary Health Center for the past several days. Later he was discharge and asked to get treatment from home considering the threat of COVID-19.
From time to time, medical practitioners went to Mr. Fuljan’s house. Yesterday afternoon also officials from the hospital reached his home and gave him a dose of medicines.
But at around 02:30 PM, a neighbor of Mr. Fuljan Kerketta informed the Sub Inspector of Betapur Police Outpost, Mr. Shusant Kumar Debnath that Mr. Fuljan Kerketta, is found dead in the house.
Mr. Debnath, the Sub Inspector immediately gave information to the ex-Pradhan, Mr. Lorentz Bara, and urged him to reach Mr. Fuljan’s home.
Perhaps due to fear of COVID-19, the neighbors did not dare to come forward even when requested by police.
In that situation, Mr. Debnath took information from the doctor of Billiground Hospital and came to know that Mr. Fuljan was a kidney patient and was in the last stage. It was learnt that Mr. Fuljan lived alone and he has no one else in his family.
The dead body was kept inside the house for about 4-5 hours but no villager came forward to help in his last rite.
Finally, Mr. Debnath himself reached the office of Assistant Commissioner Rangat and obtained the permission to perform the last rites of the body. The ex-Pradhan Mr. Lorentz Bara also came forward to help Mr. Debnath.
By evening, Mr. Bara, Mr. Debnath and some other youths got ready to perform the last rite of the body.
Last year during the lockdown, Sub Inspector, Mr. Debnath had played an important role in the cremation of one such dead body.
Apart from this, last year to bring a critical cancer patient from Dhanninallah Dispensary, Sub- Inspector SK Debnath paddled a wooden dinghy towards Dhanninallah himself and saved the life of the cancer patient.
Cops like Sub Inspector, S K Debnath shows how dedicatedly some police Jawans work day and night and go beyond their duty and help others. Such act of SI, Mr. Shusant Kumar Debnath and Mr. Lorentos Bara, ex-Pradhan of Shivapuram Gram Panchayat will certainly inspire thousands of others in coming days.
