Mayabunder, May 03: Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman today said that the N & M Andaman, District Administration is very much vigilant in the matter of availability of essential commodities and other essential services so that Islanders do not face any difficulties during this Covid-19 Pandemic period.
“All the essential commodities shops are kept open from 6.00 AM to 1.00 PM for the convenience of the Islanders”, she added.
She pointed out that the North and Middle Andaman Administration has carried out assessment of stock of essential commodities available in the District. She said that sufficient quantity of essential commodities, enough for next several weeks, are available in different regions of the district.
The DC said that essential commodities are coming from Port Blair on daily basis in convoys and there is no question of shortage of essential commodities in NMA District.
“We are also in regular touch with all the wholesalers, truck drivers and transporters. Timely survey is also being conducted in markets to see whether if there is shortage in commodity”, the DC added.
She mentioned that in this critical period no black marketing shall be tolerated. Officials have been engaged to monitor all these things and she cautioned all the shopkeepers to avoid charging excess price than the normal price from any customer. She warned if any complaint is received from any consumer for charging excess prices by shopkeeper, it will be dealt strictly.
She urged the public that if any problems are faced by them, they can immediately inform to district control room.
She lauded efforts of a few individuals, Associations, SHGs and NGOs, who are tremendously cooperating with the District Administration in the fight against Covid-19 Pandemic.
