Port Blair, April 22: Reaching far ahead of other States and Union Territories, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have vaccinated nearly 21 percent population against COVID-19 with negative wastage rate, the secretary of Health, A & N Administration Mr. N K Sharma said today.
Addressing media persons at Port Blair this evening Mr. Sharma added that out of the total population of nearly 4 lakhs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 82,700 people have been administered with the first dose of the vaccine while 9542 people have been given second dose.
Altogether nearly 92,000 people have been vaccinated in the Union Territory so far, he said.
“While the national average is 7 to 8 percent in Andaman and Nicobar Islands nearly 21 percent of the population have been given vaccines. We are in a good position,” the secretary added.
Mr. Sharma added that the A & N Administration has earmarked total 5789 beds to deal with any crisis situation.
He said that there are 390 beds in different hospitals, 1397 beds in different Cover Care Centers, 80 beds in Dedicated Covid Health Centers, 3906 beds have been identified in different private hotels.
He also said that sufficient supply of PPE kits, Masks and other medical equipment have been stocked by the local Administration in advance.
“We have also enhanced the Oxygen Cylinder numbers, which was about 1000 to 2000 earlier but now it is being enhanced by 3000 more. We have requested 1500 more cylinders and more 1500 will be requested,” Mr. Sharma said.
The secretary said that the local administration has also requested for Oxygen Plant, which will be brought to Andamans soon.
The Press Conference was called by the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Mr Jitendra Narain, who also addressed the media.
