Port Blair, Apr 16: A fire incident was reported yesterday from Nayagaon area at around 11:00 PM in the second floor of a building. A 59-year-old lady, who was unconscious inside her house, was later rescued by the fire fighters, braving thick smoke.
As per information, when fire fighter reached the spot, people informed them that two senior citizens, husband and wife are stuck inside the building where the husband Mr. John 70-year-old somehow managed to escape from fire but the lady was stuck inside, because of dense thick smoke all over the house with zero visibility.
On call, five fire tenders and two water browser and one water mist along with Ambulance reached at the spot, it was learnt.
As per sources while one team of fire fighters was deployed to douse the fire another team of four fire fighters, headed by Sub Inspector Saibal Sinha entered inside the house to rescue the lady. The team members entered the house touching floor and wearing breathing apparatus.
Sub Inspector Sibal Sinha soon found the old lady unconscious near the toilet and gave her his breathing apparatus, breathing thick smoke himself. Soon with the help of Constable Daniel, Anand and Abdul Salam the lady was somehow rescued by the Sub Inspector. A few police jawans also came for help, as reported by eye witnesses.
The old lady was immediately rushed to G B Pant Hospital, where her condition continues to be critical. Mr. John was admitted in male Surgical Ward and Mrs. Satya Narayan Amma was admitted in Female Surgical ICU.
People of the region praised the work of Fire Fighters in rescuing the old lady and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby houses. The exact cause of fire is still under investigation.
