Port Blair, Apr 09: A fire was reported yesterday from Hut Bay, Anna Nagar Basti from Copra Drying Store. As per information received, yesterday evening at 5:00 PM Mr. Raja, the owner of the store, closed his store and went to his house, which is situated next to the store. Later at around 07:00 PM he noticed a thick smoke coming out from the store, following which he immediately informed the Fire Station Hut Bay about the matter.
It was learnt that soon one fire tender reached at the spot and fire fighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes.
It was reported that fire broke out due to overheating of Copra and oil leakage, within a minute the fire spread all over the shed. Luckily, no casualty was reported but the owner of the store suffered a loss of nearly 1 lakh.
