Port Blair, Feb 25: UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UTCPCR) is a Statutory Body functioning in the Islands with a mandate to Safeguard Child Rights, examine the measures provided for the welfare and protection of child and enquire into complaints and take notice of matters related to deprivation and violation child rights.
Children in need of special care and protection like those living in Child Care Institutions require extra attention from care givers and as such the team UTCPCR consisting of Chairperson Shri. Taranga Kumar Dhali and Members Smti. Neeta Agarwal & Smti. Sampa Banerjee visited the Children Home in Abbhyuday Complex at Ferrargunj to ascertain on ground compliance regarding care protection and safety modalities for the Children residing in this institution.
The Members interacted with the inmates, Care taker and officers present on duty at the time of visit and took notice of all the matters related to Nutrition, Health and Hygiene, Education and Development, and Safety and Security of the children living in the Institution to assess the observance of their rights to Care, Protection and Development. A report with Commission’s recommendation to this effect will be forwarded to appropriate authorities.
The commission also appeals to the community at large to come forward and bring to its notice any issue of non compliance or violation of Child Rights. Communication may be conveyed at utcpcr.ani@gmail.com
