Port Blair, Feb 24: The people of North and Middle Andaman have breathed a sigh of relief after the Andaman and Nicobar Administration issued orders for reopening tourism activities in North & Middle Andaman District.
On this issue the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan has urged the people of North and Middle Andaman to follow all COVID-19 protocols, in a coming days too, as it was done in recent past till the District reaches to a critical level of COVID-19 vaccination.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha today the Deputy Commissioner said that since a long time the District Administration of North and Middle Andaman was trying to get permission to re-open Tourism. “Everyone is happy that finally this permission has been obtained. The COVID-19 situation in North and Middle Andaman is good and since last few months there are no active COVID-19 cases here. Meanwhile vaccination drives are also on in full swing and considering all this, now the decision has been taken to open tourism with safety.
She added that tourists will have to undergo similar COVID-19 testing as it is required for other passengers coming to North and Middle Andaman and validity will also be same as it is there, for others.
Talking on the issue of giving priority to the cargo vehicles, carrying perishable items, the Deputy Commissioner said that vehicle carrying perishable items from North and Middle Andaman District, must be given priority in ATR.
“The number of vehicles in convoy has increased and there have been active deliberation on increasing the number of vehicles and number of convoys of ATR,” she added, mentioning that very soon some decision will be taken in this regard.
