Port Blair, Feb 15: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, under the banner of Anganwadi Karmachari Sangh today organized massive Dharna at Port Blair and many other Islands of this Union Territory.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Ms. Geeta Devi, President of Anganwadi Karmachari Sangh today mentioned that there are five major demands of the Anganwadi workers among which the main demands are to declare the Anganwadi workers as government servants and provide the Anganwadi workers all pension benefits.
She added that since July 2020 many Anganwadi workers are not getting full payment. “We are getting payment from UT share but the payment of Central Share is still pending,” she added. The Anganwadi workers demanded immediate release of their pending salaries.
Despite rain in various islands today, hundreds of Anganwadi workers today participated in the dharna to press their long pending demands. Report of Dharna by Anganwadi workers of Kadamtala, Campbell Bay etc Islands were also received today.
