Port Blair, Dec 28: The Andaman Trunk Road leading to Jirkatang from Ferrargunj has become a major source of torture for ATR passengers over last couple of years. Many accidents have been reported in that road stretch and many people have also suffered injuries because of the bad roads.
Thanks to slow road construction works of the concerned construction company and inability of NHIDCL to force the construction firm to complete the work on time.
Finally, it seems that the work for up-gradation of ATR from Ferrargunj to Jirkatang is nearing completion and the NHIDCL is now planning to complete the work by March 2021.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone a senior officer of NHIDCL today said that due to unavailability of stone aggregates and also because of pandemic situation, the work was delayed but he stressed that the work is in full swing now and NHIDCL is hopeful that the work will be completed by March 2021.
In past NHIDCL officials had given many such deadlines but in every case they had failed to keep the promise. People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands only hope that this time NHIDCL will keep the promise and complete the ATR stretch up-gradation work from Ferrargunj to Jirkatang by March 2021.
