Port Blair, Dec 24: The Baratang Stretch of ATR has become the most horrifying stretch for ATR commuters as regular breakdown, Traffic Jams, Skidding of Vehicles and accidents have become common issues, on the road stretch.
Islanders allege that never ending earth filling works by NHICDL contractors on the said stretch and heavy rains are causing this crisis situation. Sadly the work has been delayed so much that since last nearly one year the said road stretch remained as constant source of discomfort for general public.
This matter was recently highlighted infront of the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan by the former up-adhyaksh of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mr. R Alager Swami.
According to Mr. Swami, the Deputy Commissioner of N & M Andaman heard the problem very patiently and has assured to take necessary action in this regard.
“Earlier also the Deputy Commissioner had responded positively whenever issues of general public were raised infront of her and in every case she took immediate action. We are hopeful that in this case also a clear cut direction will be given to NHIDCL to complete the ATR upgradation works of Baratang Stretch in a well planned manner and also as fast as possible, so that people of Baratang and also ATR commuters get some relief,” Mr. Alager Swami added.
