Port Blair, Nov 27: While Swatchh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, aims at keeping every corner of India clean, the PBMC seems to have lost its way and dumping garbage, close to residential areas in many wards.
For example at New Pahargaon, the area between a private house and New Pahargaon Bus stand has now been turned into a massive garbage collection point, making life difficult for dozens of houses nearby and also those who use the bus stand on daily basis.
Not only this, the area close to the main road has also become an eyesore for everyone because of indiscriminate garbage dumping.
One wonders how PBMC is planning to keep Port Blair clean by creating such massive garbage dumping areas, that too close to residential areas.
When asked why such huge amount of garbage is dumped near residential area and around a bus stand, PBMC workers failed to give any valid reason. “Ask senior sanitary officials of PBMC, we have no idea,” said a worker.
When contacted the Senior Sanitary officer of PBMC, Mr. Vijay Prasad Tiwari said that the shed for waste in New Pahargaon area is a temporary shed, in which waste collected by sanitary workers are stored for segregating dry and wet waste.
“It’s just a temporary shed and once permanent shed becomes ready all the waste will be kept in permanent shed. Already plan is ready for permanent shed in all 24 wards. Once work is completed all the temporary sheds will be removed,” Mr. Tiwari said.
Public demand that such segregation points must be located atleast 500 meters away from residential areas and garbage should be dumped in such a manner that it doesn’t become an eyesore. Youths of the area are now planning to click photos of such irresponsible garbage management techniques of PBMC and tag Prime Minister in twitter and other social media.
