Port Blair, Oct 29: Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- DAY- (NULM) scheme aims at reduction of poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them access to self-employment resulting in improvement in their livelihood on sustainable basis.
Sanctioning of two micro-credit loan under Self Employment Programme (SEP) of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihood (DAY-NULM) were facilitated by PBMC and the same were disbursed to Mr. N. Senthivel and Smt. L. Mahalaxmi on 29/10/2020. Smti. Anjali Sehrawat IAS, Secretary PBMC and Lead District Manager Port Blair Mr. P.K. Ummer Farooq handed over the sanction letter for an amount of Rs. 1.9 lakhs and Rs. 1.8 lakhs respectively. Sh. N. Senthivel runs a Food Items shop near Shadipur Chowk while Smt. L . Mahalaxmi runs a small bakery from her home.
The credit facility has come as a ray of hope for them as they wanted to expand their enterprises but were constrained due to lack of funds. Project Officer, PBMC Sh. Muthu Kumar facilitated them to apply for funds under DAY-NULM scheme.
Under SEP component of the DAY- NULM scheme, financial assistance with interest subvention is provided to Individuals/groups and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) including street vendors for setting up gainful self-employment ventures /micro enterprises, suited to their skills, training, aptitude and local conditions. Under this scheme a loan of up to Rs. 2.00 Lakh for an individual and up to Rs. 10.00 Lakh for SHGs can be availed. The interest subvention under the scheme is approx. 5% . Further Women and SHGs are entitled for additional interest subvention of 3%.
