Port Blair, Oct 19: As per caution received from the center and also as per the suggestions made by various studies that there might be a surge in COVID-19 cases during Durga Puja and coming festival season, as a large number of people will come out of their home, the District Administration has taken series of measures the to ensure safety of the public.
Addressing a press conference at Deputy Commissioner’s Office this afternoon, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipakka today said the District Administration has till now conducted three meetings with Durga Puja Committee members and invited their suggestions to formulate an SOP for movement of public and conduct of Durga Puja, so that safety of the public is ensured and least inconvenience is caused to public as well as Durga Puja Committee.
According to the Deputy Commissioner ,the District Administration is encouraging people to stay home and attend Durga Puja via live streaming and live telecast of aarti and anjali via cable channels.
“The District Administration and Puja Committees are working together to make live streaming of various Puja Pandals and arrangements are also being made to telecast the aarti and anjali live in cable channels,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
He said that for movement of the public only 100 people are allowed to visit per pandal per day but he stressed that the safest way is to remain home and watch puja online for the safety of the public and to ensure that there is no surge in COVID-19 cases during puja.
He said that for immersion of idols of Goddess Durga all Puja Committees have been urged to immerse Idols to the nearest point and for this staggered timing will be intimated to all Puja Committees.
