Port Blair, Sept 28: This year Monsoon was not too devastating but still the road woes refuse to end for North and Middle Andaman residents. Although the residents of Rangat are happy for the good rains since past one week, poor condition of the road is now the cause of concern for the residents.
The cause of innumerable potholes near the Sabari School is said to be the road digging works for the up-gradation of ATR by the NHIDCL, but the work did not complete.
According to the residents, the condition of roads is so pathetic till the ‘Pani-Tanki’ area of Rangat, that traveling has become dangerous for two-wheelers as well as for four-wheelers on the said stretch.
“As if the potholes were not enough to the trouble the ATR commuters now the recent rains have further worsen the conditions to such an extent that it is turning out to be a nightmare for daily commuters to cross the stretch,” a resident of Sabari.
Some residents also questioned the authorities of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Andaman and Nicobar circle to why they haven’t paid attention in completing the work when the season was dry.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Mr. Bhaskar Rao, Project Manager, NHIDCL he said that due to the lockdown and rainy season, they were unable to complete the stretch.
However, he said that since yesterday the repair work of the aforementioned road stretch has started and they will continue to work. “From mid-October, we will start the construction work for a new road and we are sure to complete it by the 21st of May,” Mr. Rao said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rao has also said that repair work of the road from Rangat Fire Station to the AC office, some regions of Kadamtala, and the road from Adazig to Humphrey Bridge will start from 28th September 2020.
