Port Blair, Aug 05: Due to massive surge in corona virus cases in Andaman Nicobar Island, it has become almost impossible to conduct pool testing and that is why the number of tests per day has now reduced to around 300 RT-PCR tests from approximately 500 RT-PCR tests earlier, sources in Health Department said.
A senior officer of Health Department today told Andaman Sheekha that efforts are being made to increase the number of tests by increasing the number of slides to 100, which means in coming days nearly 400 tests will be possible to conduct in Andaman Nicobar Islands, for which some appointments of technical people are being made by ICMR.
Adding to that the official Health Department said that the department has ordered nearly 200 vials Remdesivir drug, which has not reached Andaman yet.
The officer also added that the number of Rapid Testing is being rationed because the rapid testing kits are decreasing in number, and presently hardly 1500 kits are remaining.
“20,000 Rapid Test Kits ordered earlier has not reached Port Blair yet. Once the kits arrive sufficient tests will be conducted using the Rapid Test Kits,” he said.
