Port Blair, August 05: Neither any testing nor any medicine can save you, it is only the discipline that can save you from the pandemic, said the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Chetan B Sanghi in an interview given to the Regional News Unit, All India Radio, Port Blair today.
Talking to RNU, AIR, Port Blair, Mr. Sanghi appealed to the people that while taking any step just think whether the step taken is good for his/her family members and well wishers.
He then appealed to the public to follow the guidelines issued by the Andaman Nicobar administration and wear masks, wash hands, maintain distance, and use disinfectants before and after heading out in any crowded place. “I appeal to all to keep doing the aforesaid things and allow others to do their job which can only bring us back to normalcy,” said Mr. Sanghi.
Later Mr. Sanghi said that no one has any experience to deal with the pandemic, as it is new to the world. It is as new to the administration, the Government and even for the other countries as well, all are fighting together against the pandemic.
Meanwhile, to stop the virus from spreading further, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has taken several steps, one in which is reducing the flight and Inter-Island Ship Services and Inter-District movement of public ship services.
Informing this to the general public through All India Radio, Port Blair, Mr. Chetan B Sanghi, the Chief Secretary, Andaman, and Nicobar administration said that the flight from the mainland has been reduced from 14 to 05, Inter-Island Ship Services and Inter-District movement of the public has been reduced, “It is almost like a lockdown, allowing only the movement of vehicles with essential commodities,” the CS said.
“With these steps of the administration, we feel the rate of interaction between the public will reduce as this may slow down the spread of virus as compared to now,” Mr. Sanghi added.
“We have decided to keep the 50% of Corona positive people at their home itself as till now even the government and the system does not have any treatment for the disease,” Mr. Sanghi said.
He also added that till now entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands has around 450 beds for Corona positive patients which the administration is trying to increase to more than 1000 in the coming 03-04 days, “If in the one-week lockdown the guidelines are properly followed by the people we will be able to slow down the spread of the virus,” Mr. Sanghi added.
Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary Health, Mr. R. Meena has appealed to the old aged people, children, pregnant women, and people with co-morbidity not come out of their home as according to him, all the 12 people who succumbed after getting infected by the virus were already suffering from some of the other kind of ailments.
