Port Blair, July 19: It seems that the Administration has taken public convenience inside containment areas too lightly as in Haddo area nearly 15 families inside a Containment Zone are suffering heavily as their containment restrictions of the locality has not been lifted even after 14 days.
The locality was sealed from both ends with wooden planks by the concerned team of COVID19 from revenue department. The officials reportedly had told public that the containment restrictions will be lifted after 14 days but even after 18 days the restrictions have not been lifted.
The problems do not end here, the people inside containment area allege that they can’t even move out of the congested area for throwing garbage and hence they are dumping garbage near the barricade, which has now become a major problem for neighbours as the heap of garbage from containment area are not even touched by regular sanitary workers, out of fear.
“There are many government servants and daily wage workers, who will pay for their losses? Officials told me that as testing of all the people inside the containment area has not been carried out, the restrictions were not lifted. If the containment is for 14 days then health department must complete testing before 14 days. There is no point harassing public,” said Mr. Someshwar Rao the Councillor of the area.
He also alleged that senior officers are not responding to even his requests.
“If I call the AC office staffs, they tell me to contact DC, the DC is never available. Who will come for the rescue of these people? Public inside containment area accuse me and express anger against me but what can I do” questioned Mr. Rao.
He said that according to him there is absolutely no coordination between various departments dealing with COVID19 Containment Zones.
