Port Blair, June 30: The Regional News Unit, RNU of All India Radio, Port Blair is going to complete its 45 years in the service of the islanders. The RNU started its journey on 1st July 1975 with an aim to provide all important information, in time, with utmost credibility, related with the daily life of a common islander. Having a wide network spread across the whole islands from Diglipur in the north to Campbell Bay in the remote south, it keeps every islander updated. The locals are well aware of ‘Pradeshik Samachar’ and shared a special bond with it. The FM has helped in reaching more and more people since its arrival. The news unit has proven its importance once again during the unprecedented time of COVID-19. In wake of the crisis, the RNU has started three special bulletins along with ‘Pradeshik Samachar’ with scanty staff in place for 53 days.
The initiative has been well appreciated by the highest authority i.e. Lt. Governor, the Chief Secretary and common islanders as well. The RNU has put all affords in place to keep the people informed about each and every update in order to contain the virus. With that bond, we hope to reach new heights in information dissemination in and all.
