Port Blair, June 15: Three Senior Police Officers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including the DGP of the UT have been tested COVID19 positive in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“While we corona-warriors continue to lead from front ensuring best public service delivery in FightAgainstCovid19 our three officers including myself have tested positive. Taking all precautions & following Government protocol. We shall fight, we shall win,” said Mr. Dependra Pathak, the Director General of Andaman and Nicobar Police in his twitter message today.
Although it has not been officially declared who are the two other officers but sources said that the other two officers are the IGP and SP (IRBn) of Andaman and Nicobar Police.
The Health Department has started contact tracing work.
It is said that the Director General of Police had gone to Mainland India recently.
Meanwhile, former Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) A K Singh, the Chief Secretary of A & N Islands, Mr. Chetan Sanghi and several other islanders as well as well wishers have wished the DGP speedy recovery in twitter message.
It is learnt that the DGP and IGP have been quarantined in the Guest House of their respective quarters as per guidelines and the SP has been quarantined in South Point Guest House.
Sources also said that the Police Head Quarter has been sealed for two days and disinfection drive is being carried out in PHQ.
Sample testing of nearly 6 to 7 people related to these three cases were carried out yesterday and today 37 more samples were taken.
Interestingly, on 11 June, 2020, Andaman & Nicobar Police oraganised a Police Study Circle (PSC) program, which is a research and analysis circle that focus on critical issues in policing.
The 12th Discussion was conducted at the Conference Hall of Police Headquarters on the topic ‘Policing: A dialogue with web of Human relationships’, which was held in presence of worthy Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Police, Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS & other Senior Officers.
With these three new cases now, altogether 41 COVID19 cases have been reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, out of which eight cases are active cases.
