Port Blair, June 11: The Health Service Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands claimed to have strengthened the testing process for the passengers landing in the Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair after five positive COVID-19 cases have been detected recently that is said to have spread from a passenger traveled from the mainland via a flight.
Stating to the All India Radio, the Nodal Officer, COVID-19, AN Islands, Dr. Avijit Roy said that the Department is expecting to receive the test results of the people today, who came in contact with the recently detected COVID-19 patients.
He also stated in his statement to the AIR, Port Blair that the people coming from Kolkata via ship MV Swarajdweep tomorrow will also be kept in quarantine, and after receiving the test reports the people will be left as per the plans.
“We did the testing for all the passengers who came from Vizag on 08th June 2020 in ship MV Nancowry, similarly, we will also do the testing of all the 196 passengers in the Haddo Jetty coming tomorrow in ship MV Swarajdweep from Kolkata, once their result comes we will brief them to stay in-home quarantine,” Dr. Roy added.
Later talking to Andaman Sheekha, Dr. Roy said that after testing of ship passengers tomorrow, from Saturday the number of testing in Airport will be increased many fold.
