Port Blair, June 11: The Electricity Department, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has got the approval of setting up a Power Plant at Balu Basti in the Champion Island of Nancowry Group of Islands.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Superintendent Engineer, Electricity Department, Er. Ajit Bernard said that though they have received the approval of setting up a power plant at Champion Island, still there are procedures left to make the project a success and it will take time.
“We have to first float the tender, in which we will have to give 30 days for filing the tender, after the tender job is done, the contractor will have to given a time of 90 days for installation of the DG sets, in total it may take another 04-05 months,” clarified Er Bernard.
As per details, after the Power Plant in the Champion Island starts functioning it will solve the present electricity-related issues of the residents staying in all three villages of Champion Island viz Tapong, Balu Basti, and Champion.
Andaman Sheekha Correspondent of Great Nicobar, Mr. Rahul Singh reported earlier that four days ago the DG set in the Champion Island developed some problems in the alternator due to torrential rain following which there was no power on the Island for two long days, Tuesday only the power was restored in the Island.
