Port Blair, June 03: Yet again a case of cheating by an unknown caller has been registered in the Aberdeen Police Unit, Port Blair. This time it is the Secretary of a private school lost Rs. 09,14,906/- after he shared the OTP, he received from the unknown caller’s number.
Going into the details, Bikash Chandra Mahato, the complainant received a call from number 8240848824 dated 14/04/2020 at around 09:00 pm where the caller asked him to share the OTP he received from his number. The complainant also received a OTP from one more number i.e 9004676782.
The caller informed the complainant that he will use the code for the complainant’s Google pay activation to which the complainant believed and shared the code.
According to the complainant, on dated 14/04/2020 to 15/04/2020 an amount of Rs. 09,14,906/- was debited from his savings and FD account of United Bank of India’s, Burda Branch, Purulia, West Bengal.
As per the complainant, the transaction from his account happened one after the other but because of the lockdown, he couldn’t block his account.
As per the true caller app, the numbers from which the complainant received the call belonged to Pritha Didibhal and Pritha Gupta. A case of fraud has been registered by Police yesterday upon the complaint received on dated 16.04.2020, the investigation is on in this regard.
