Port Blair, May 04: The decision to open Wine Shops of ANIIDCO in Port Blair city today after a gap of more than a month, resulted in chaotic situation in Bhatu Basti, Delanipur and Haddo.
According to sources as soon as the Wine Shops opened hundreds of people thronged in and made beeline outside the wine shop, violating social distancing norms in many cases.
Although police personnel were seen working very hard in maintaining crowd but it is the number of people, who turned out for the liquor, which was the major cause of concern.
At Bhatubasti, the line was till Dollygunj Shiv Mandir while at Delanipur there were two lines one went upto All India Radio while the other went upto Buniyadabad. At Haddo the line went upto Haddo wharf gate number 1.
According to many eye witnesses, finally within an hour the Deputy Commissioner reached the spot and after witnessing the chaotic situation, the DC order closure of Wine Shops. The quick intervention and decision of the Deputy Commissioner was highly appreciated by general public.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact ANIIDCO officials over this issue but they refused to comment in this regard.
Highly placed sources said that the Wine shops might also remain open tomorrow, which many believe will again create a chaotic situation.
There are many in Andaman who are advocating to keep the wine shops closed till the lock down as a simple mistake by may result in future problems.
