Port Blair, Apr 13: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has taken up the matter with the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi ji on 12.04.2020 wherein he appealed to consider for granting financial assistance of Rs.5000 and free ration for the next three months to the daily wage working in the various private sectors who are around 18,000 (approximately) such as fishermen, fish vendors, agriculture labourers, street vendors, small tea/pan shops, persons working in various traders/merchant shops, house maid, auto rickshaw, bus, car, jeep, truck, van drivers, cleaners, Harour and truck labourers and various categories of vehicles involved in tourism and local transport, cargo transportation, public carrier etc., coconut vendors, bamboo labourers, automobile garage workers, carpenters, cook and waiters, cobblers, barbers, dhobi, tinsmiths, blacksmiths, plumbers, electrician, Tailors, workers in mills, food vendors, domestic workers, vegetable vendor, security guards, small boat workers in tourism industry, MGNREGA workers etc. whose per month income is ranging from Rs.8,000/- to Rs.12,000/- and from this very small income, these poor people anyhow managing their daily routine lives by paying their house rents, transportation charge, ration items, children education, medicine, electrical and water charges, conservancy charges, social obligation etc.
In his letter he specifically stated that due to ongoing lockdown on COVID-19, these categories of poor people do not have any savings of money in their hands and are facing great financial hardships for purchasing minimum essential ration items for their survival and other essential expenses as aforesaid. Hence, at this distressed situation, there is no other way to help them for their survival other than by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Modi ji to mitigate their starvation.
Under this circumstance, the Member of Parliament requested the Prime Minister of India to help these poor people for providing financial assistance of Rs.5000/- and free ration items for next three months through a special package for A&N Islands keeping in view of most remote backward area.
