Port Blair, Mar 16: Mr. Rajendra Singh, the Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) visited Andaman & Nicobar Islands today and reviewed the preparedness of the UT Administration to contain the spread of Novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in A & N Islands. During his stay in the Islands, he visited isolation ward created by the UT Administration at GB Pant Hospital for infected persons. Thereafter, he visited A & N Command hospital, INHS Dhanvantri where he was briefed about the entire process of detection, isolation, quarantine of Corona Virus infected persons. He also visited the isolation wards with 10 bedded created by the Command hospital.
Mr. Rajendra Singh also visited the ICMR-RMRC, Dollygunj laboratory set up by the Ministry for testing samples of suspected persons. Dr. P Vijayachari, Director, RMRC briefed him about the entire process of samples testing of COVID-19.
On arrival at Airport, he also reviewed the screening arrangements made by the Administration at Airport. It is pertinent to mention that UT Administration of A & N Islands is screening all the passengers at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair to detect the infected persons at entry level itself.
Later in the evening, the Health Department briefed him in detail the measures taken by the Administration to contain spread of COVID-19 in A & N Islands. The briefing was also attended by Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Health), PCCF, DGP, Principal Secretary (DM & RR), Director, ICMR-RMRC, Chief Staff Officer (Medical), INHS Dhanvantri along with other senior officers of the Administration.
Mr. Rajendra Singh, Hon’ble Member, NDMA appreciated the measures taken by the Administration to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the Islands. He also mentioned that Govt. of India has allowed funds from NDMA which can be utilized to purchase various preventive/testing equipments for COVID-19.
